From a melodic opening by festival band competition winner Tell Tale Tusk, via the energetic Gerry Colvin Band and storming Scottish band TIde Lines, the first day of Ely Folk Festival 2019 ended with an energising ceilidh with Melrose Ceilidh Band. Today, Les Barker opened the Saturday afternoon concert in marquee 1 with his usual deprecating northern humour, followed by Lunch Special with their special brand of blue grass, and London troubadour Rory McLeod. In marquee 2, Saul Bailey electrified the audience with his box playing, while Rich Young & Tim Slater brought a more mellow feeling to a mainly sunny festival afternoon with their brand of Americana & blues.  Too many highlights so far to list, but certainly top of my list were the Rogue Shanty Buoys and the totally fabulous and remarkable 60’s legend Julie Felix.  Much more to come tonight, but please note that Saturday festival tickets are now SOLD OUT. Tickets for Sunday still available from the box office on the festival site.
