THE ROGUE SHANTY BUOYS are an energetic sea shanties group based in rural Suffolk with an unmistakably bold and original sound and an emphasis on tight harmonies, strong vocals and unfussy arrangements. The group perform authentic Sea shanties and sea songs, whaling arias, smuggling and wrecking refrains, pirate hymns, murder ballads and tunes of ne’er-do-wells. Beyond maritime music, their songs span a hugely diverse repertoire from the 6th-Century to the present day. They are as at home singing choruses, come all ye’s, rousing step dances, songs of legends, myths and ancient stories as well as original songs written by the group addressing 21st-Century social issues such as coastal erosion, human migration and plastic pollution within the sea. The Rogue Shanty Buoys will be running two workshops over the weekend (so bring along your vocal chords & have a go) as well as a concert slot.
