LPtRiots  2016 marks the 200th anniversary of the 1816 Ely & Littleport Riots. The riots were caused by high unemployment and rising grain costs, much like the general unrest which spread throughout England following the Napoleonic Wars. One upshot of the Riots was that 23 local men and one woman were condemned, of which five were subsequently hanged. The Riots are an important local historic event, and Ely Folk Festival (with support from City of Ely Council) is pleased to commission Gareth Calway to write and perform a show for the 2016 festival involving narrative and music (performed by Andy Wall) to mark this anniversary. The show will be performed in marquee 3 on Sunday evening.
