They performed at our Local Bands Showcase last year, and we were so impressed, we booked them to play our Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening concert slots this year. This Cambridge-based band weaves traditional and modern roots music in well-crafted songs. Their first full album is due for release soon.
With a sound that has been described as both beautiful and contemporary, The Willows intricately weave traditional and modern roots music within well-crafted songs.
Their debut EP ‘The Willows’ was released in late 2010, receiving an enthusiastic reception from the music press. Tracks from the release have been featured on Folk Radio UK and a number of BBC regional Stations. The band also appeared on BBC Introducing Cambridgeshire for a live session in Febuary 2011.
The band have spent the winter plying their trade in folk and acoustic clubs across Anglia and the South East supporting the likes of LAU, Uiscedwr, Boo Hewerdine, Rory McLeod and Hannah James & Sam Sweeney. The sellout crowd for their EP launch in early 2011 is indeed a sign of the bands growing popularity. Appearances to packed out crowds at Cambridge Folk Festival and Ely Folk Festival followed. Recording is now underway for their first full album, scheduled for release in early 2012.
