Fred’s House is a quirky acoustic indie-folk four piece band based in Cambridge. This is Fred’s House first appearance at Ely Folk Festival and they’ll be performing at our Local Bands Showcase on Friday night in marquee 2.
Fred’s House are an acoustic indie-folk four piece based in Cambridge. Their songs feature boy and girl harmonies similar to The Civil Wars, Of Monsters and Men and The Swell Season, intricate three part harmonies on a background of acoustic guitars, occasional banjo and electric guitar, bass and percussion. Among their many influences are bands such as Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, C.S.N.Y., and The Beatles.
Their latest EP “Looking Glass”, which was released in April 2012, was reviewed by Rock n’ Reel R2 Magazine who said “With it’s hook-laiden catchiness it’s the perfect showcase for their quirky songwriting, excellent musicianship and the vocal harmonies of Vikki Gavin and Griff Jameson.”
Fred’s House formed in February 2010 and started with duo “Griff and Vix”, a London based couple who were set to record a few of their songs with producer NoisyFred. Gafyn, Griff’s brother, was gigging with Cambridge band, The Wentways, who at that point dis-banded from their lead singer due to artistic difference. They asked Gafyn if would play bass for their recordings, to which he replied, ‘I’ll bring the whole band!’ So it was at Fred’s house where they spent the weekend in the studio!
